Title

  • Poesías e historias del Caribe: Mapping Caribbean Women Poets in the PALABRA Archive

Summary

  • 2021 Junior Fellow Karla Roig Blay created a digital StoryMap of Caribbean women poets present represented in the PALABRA Archive. This archive is a collection of approximately 800 audio recordings of 20th and 21st-century writers with Luso-Hispanic heritage through Latin American women poets represent only ten percent of this collection. The narrative of the StoryMap focuses on the Caribbean region, with an in depth look into four countries: Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. With materials from the Prints and Photographs Division, the Geography and Map Division collection, and the PALABRA archive, this project will showcase excerpts of poems that delve into the struggles of heritage, identity and colonial history of the Caribbean region. Lastly, a geographic dataset will provide a detailed look into all the Latin American women poets in the archive, giving the public the opportunity to explore further and make their own connections
