About this Item

Title

  • Der Sele Trost.

Summary

  • Illustrated with ten full-page woodcuts depicting the commandments, apparently the first printed book to do so. It appears that this is the first use of these images in a printed book. They are cut in simple outline with some parallel lines used for shading; as is typical for the period there is a lot of white space and very little background. The woodcuts are highlighted in yellow by what appears to be contemporary hand. Some of the costumes and floral decorations in the illustrations reflect the French style. Nine line woodcut Floriated initials are highlighted in red or yellow. The red line initial letters in outline appear throughout.
