Title
N. A. Bulganin i N. S. Khrushchev v Afganistane.
Summary
In December 1955, Nikolai A. Bulganin, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and Nikita S. Khrushchev, member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, visited Afghanistan at the invitation of the royal government. They spent four days in Kabul, from December 15 to December 19. Their visit was the last stop on a tour of Asia, which also included stays in India and Burma. Bulganin and Khrushchev had meetings with Prime Minister Mohammad Daoud and other Afghan officials to discuss Soviet-Afghan relations and international issues. The members of the Soviet delegation visited a history museum, a military school, and the medical school at Kabul University where they met with doctors and toured laboratories. They also attended a sports event. In connection with the visit, the Soviet leaders presented 15 buses and a quantity of medical equipment to Afghanistan as a gift from the Soviet Union. At the conclusion of visit, the two governments issued a joint statement in which they affirmed their agreement on the issues of disarmament, the banning of atomic weapons, and need for peace in the world; signed a protocol on extending for another ten years the agreement on neutrality and mutual nonaggression between the USSR and Afghanistan, originally concluded on July 24, 1931; and released a communiqué on economic relations between the USSR and Afghanistan. N. A. Bulganin i N. S. Khrushchev v Afganistane (N.A. Bulganin and N.S. Khrushchev in Afghanistan) is an illustrated commemorative volume about the visit, issued in 1956 by the Soviet Ministry of Culture. The introduction and the captions to the photographs are in Russian and in Persian-Dari. World Digital Library.
