In the course of his talk, Mr. Hass reads: a song composed by Tatanka Iyontake (Sitting Bull); Song of the butterfly: a Chippewa song, Frances Densmore, translator; Magpie song: a Navajo song, Washington Matthews, translator; Prayer for rain: a Sia song, Mathilde Cox Stevenson, translator; On being brought from Africa to America, by Phllis Wheatley; spirituals and worksongs; Compensation, by Paul Lawrence Dunbar; In the morning (excerpt), by Paul Lawrence Dunbar; The song of the smoke (excerpt), by W.E.B. DuBois; and The scarlet woman, by Fenton Johnson.
