  • -  Index data: Film negative frame numbers, descriptions: at the Thibault & Nunn Saddlery, Miles City MT (the photographer's log suggests that Barre Toelken may have made some of these exposures): 1-6, Dale Thibault putting saddle strings on saddle, the photographer's notes use the term "latigo strings" and add "in frame 1 he is slitting the string with a knife, in frame 2 he is drawing one string through the one with the slit, in frame 3 he pulls the string through the slit with pliers, in frame 4, flat the strings, and in frame 6 the finished string"; it is also the case that frames 1 through 5 document work on a saddle string behind the cantle, while frame 6 shows a string (possibly a latigo string) at the saddle fork; 7-13, exterior of the saddle shop from across the dirt road in front of the shop; 14-15, decorative business sign designed by Thibault, with wagon wheel and doubletree motifs, "Thibault & Nunn Saddlery"; 16-18, Dale Thibault; 19-21, Leighton Nunn (hands visible) demonstrates leather stamping; the photographer's notes state, "He has drawn a leaf pattern on a scrap piece of leather and has just traced the pattern with a knife or sharp-edged tool; 22, stamping the leaf pattern into the leather using a rough-edged point struck by hammer; 23-26, the finished leaf pattern in leather; 27-28, cartoon on the wall of the saddle shop that shows a saddle with a horn at front and one at the back and a caption reading "It's been real popular with drunks"; at top, "Nunn Saddlery," and signed Herb Mignery, 1972; 29-37, Dale Thibault.
