Chuck Hagel, Nebraska's senior U.S. Senator, served in Vietnam with his brother Tom in 1968. During the worst year of the war, they walked side by side as infantry squad leaders with the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry Division. Senator Hagel's poignant descriptions of the "War with no rules" invite us to smell the jungle, feel the heat, and experience the sheer terror of the night. For his extreme courage, Hagel earned many honors, including two Purple Hearts.
