Biography Alberto Gómez Pérez

Alberto Gómez Pérez is a Tsotsil poet. He literary passion derives from creating and recreating the collective memory of his indigenous community.  Much of his work illustrates the daily life in a Tsotsil pueblo, of the importance of family units in an agrarian lifestyle. He currently has four published books. In1999, he won first place for Yok’el k’ak’aletik, Llanto del tiempo [The Cry of Time] in the Premio de Poesía Indígena Pat Ot’an [Pat Ot’an Indigenous Poetry Award], convened by the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de Chiapas through the Centro Estatal de Lenguas, Arte y Literatura Indígenas, CELALI. He is one of the founding members of ELIAC, the national association for writers in Indigenous Languages.
