This position is located in Library Services, which is responsible for acquiring, organizing, preserving, securing, interpreting, making accessible and sustaining for the present and future use of the Congress and the Nation a comprehensive record of American history and creativity and a universal collection of human knowledge.
The incumbent of this position serves as the Deputy Associate Librarian and as such functions as the alter ego to the Associate Librarian on all matters that fall within the functional responsibility of Library Services. The incumbent co-manages the functional responsibilities of Library Services along with the Associate Librarian and in doing so, the incumbent plans, develops, coordinates, and executes Library-wide policies and programs related to the development and selection of library materials, as well as leads projects, develops policy, and provides leadership and direction in support of the service unit's broader strategic planning efforts. Works closely with the Office of the Chief Operating Officer as well as the Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access, Collections and Services, and Preservation Directorates to devise and implement short and long-term plans for the Service Unit. Incumbent focuses on collaborations both within the Library and with external entities that share or support the Library's mission, and serves as liaison with managers throughout the Library and senior officials from other agencies of the Federal government. The Collection Development Officer reports directly to the Deputy.
