The Law Library of Congress seeks a legal assistant with education and experience providing legal and legislative research services to diverse and demanding clients in a law library or similar legal information organization and creating, organizing and managing web content for dynamic websites.

Tour of Duty: Full-time
Salary range: $47,016 to $61,122


Assists with research in responding to legal and legislative reference inquiries from members of Congress, congressional committees, the White House, federal courts, Government agencies, libraries, the bar and the general public.

Responds to legal and legislative reference inquiries from all categories of Law Library of Congress users.   Inquiries may be received by telephone, in person, in writing, and by electronic means. Locates information, often of a specialized or technical nature, from a wide variety of published and unpublished legal and legislative information sources and electronic databases.  Assists in creating legal and legislative research databases, and prepares materials for digital preservation.

Conducts legal and legislative research, and assists with efforts aimed at prescribing records of legal   and legislative research and reference.

Analyzes and organizes specialized information, and assesses and prioritizes work.

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities Expected: 

Ability to Apply Knowledge of the Principles, Concepts, and Techniques of Law research and Science to the Organization and Dissemination of Legal Information.**

Ability to Utilize Information Technology and Online Legal Resources.

Ability to Plan and Implement Library Programs and research projects.

Ability to Interact Collaboratively with a Diverse Group of People.

Ability to Communicate Effectively Other Than in Writing.
