The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), Collection Division, Bibliographic Control Section is offering an opportunity for TWO qualified individuals at the GS-11 level to serve on a full-time, 120-day temporary promotion to the GS-12 OR a qualified individual at the GS-12 level (no promotion) to serve on a 120-day detail as a Cataloger.
(Applicants must have completed one year of time-in-grade at the GS-11 level to be eligible for a temporary promotion to the GS-12.)
Responsibilities
As a Cataloger at the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled Directorate, in the Collection Division, this incumbent would report to the Head of Bibliographic Control. The incumbent is responsible for cataloging and processing of the NLS-accessible book formats (braille, sound recordings). Cataloging duties include copy cataloging, occasional original cataloging, book processing (not physical), and editing existing MARC records in NLSDB. The incumbent would:
- Conduct cataloging for books in English and foreign languages in accessible formats (braille books, sound recordings)
- Utilize various integrated library systems, applications, and search databases, including NLS Catalog, Voyager, LC catalog, OCLC, LC authorities, etc.
- Assist with NLS/BCS metadata maintenance projects and MARC records cleanups
- Perform bulk editing and cataloging tasks in MarcEdit
- Communicate and interact effectively with team members, supervisors, NLS staff, and subject matter experts across NLS divisions
- Perform other duties as assigned

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to LC permanent staff who have permission from their supervisor.
Work Schedule: The work schedule is Monday thru Friday. This position requires a minimum of 2 days per pay period onsite.
