The Prints & Photographs Division is offering an opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-07 level (with one year time-in-grade) to serve on a full-time, 90-day temporary promotion to the GS-08 level, OR a qualified individual at the GS-08 level (no promotion) to serve on a full-time, 90-day detail as Library Technician in the Prints & Photographs Division, Technical Services Section.

Reporting to the Technical Services Section Head of the Prints & Photographs Division, this position is responsible for working on a team to process the Louis A Marre rail transportation photograph collection.  The Library Technician is responsible for archival arrangement, inventory control, and collections management tasks. Training will be provided for working with rare visual materials.

Responsibilities

The Library Technician has primary responsibility for the following:

  • Hand-marking and stamping collection material for identification and security
  • Sorting photographs
  • Labeling and rehousing in preservation-quality containers
  • Entering pertinent information into inventory databases according to standard procedures
  • Ability to use databases
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively
  • Ability to handle collections safely for preservation care

Work Schedule: The work schedule is Flextime, Monday thru Friday.  Telework might be available one day per pay period.
