Library of Congress joins the 100thanniversary celebration of Children’s Book Week (April 29 to May 5, 2019), the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country, sponsored by the Children’s Book Council (CBC)!

The Library has launched the Children’s Book Selections Digital Collection.  This new online collection features digital versions of sixty-seven children’s books selected from the General and Rare Book Collections at the Library of Congress. These include classic works that are still read by children today, and lesser-known treasures drawn from the Library’s extensive collection of historically significant children’s books. The books in this collection were published in the United States and England before 1924, are no longer under copyright, and are free to read and share.

To recognize and promote this new Digital Collection as well as Children’s Book Week, local authors and illustrators will each read a select book from the historical collection out loud.
