Le Consort’s four charismatic players have already achieved star status in the world of early music, earning accolades for “audacity, brilliance and... jubilant virtuosity” (Diapason d’Or). Making their first American tour, they offer a well-informed travelogue pairing music by Baroque masters including J.S. Bach and Jean-Philippe Rameau with pieces by composers less well known today, among them a recently unearthed violin sonata by a Vivaldi contemporary, Giovanni Battista Reali. And the evening will feature two magnificent settings of a centuries-old favorite, La Follia, perhaps the Baroque era’s most recognizable melody and one that still captivates today.
Pre-concert Conversation with the Artists: 6:30 p.m., Whittall Pavilion.
