Experience historic Asian American communities through Hidden Portals, a series of virtual reconstructions created by 2023-2024 Library of Congress Innovator in Residence Jeffrey Yoo Warren using maps and photographs from the Library’s collections.

Use your smartphone to find each of the immersive 3D reconstructions located around the Library’s Washington, D.C. campus.

When you approach each location with the Hidden Portals site open on your smartphone, you’ll encounter the sights and sounds of some of the earliest Chinese American and Korean American communities in: Providence, Rhode Island; Portland, Oregon; Hanford, California; Riverside, California; and Truckee, California.

Three of the Hidden Portals are located inside Library buildings and can only be accessed during Library visitor hours.

More details regarding locations around the Library of Congress campus can be found on the Hidden Portals website
