Black women occupy a long intellectual tradition in America — one that’s in part about social justice and defiance of the world as it is. Harriet Tubman and Audre Lorde are two of its icons, people with idiosyncrasies and nuance. Alexis Pauline Gumbs (“Survival Is a Promise”) and Tiya Miles (“Night Flyer”) help us complicate portrayals of Lorde and Tubman. Moderated by Martha S. Jones.
