An unforgettable evening awaits with the legendary multi-Grammy winner, 2013 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, Latin jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader, Eddie Palmieri. With a career spanning over six decades, Palmieri has revolutionized the jazz and salsa genres with his innovative compositions, including “Azucar Pa’ Ti,” which was inducted into the National Registry in 2009. Known for his unconventional and innovative sound, Palmieri masterfully blends American jazz with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, encompassing elements of salsa, funk, soul, and jazz.

"Eddie Palmieri: A Revolution on Harlem River Drive" NR, 14min (2016)
The evening will open with a short film, "Eddie Palmieri: Harlem River Drive." This film goes beyond the infectious rhythms and pulsating energy of the music. It delves into the inspiration behind the album, exploring the influence of the Black Panther Party and the Young Lords on Palmieri's creative process. Witness how he masterfully fused Latin music with soul, funk, and jazz, creating a sound that was both politically charged and undeniably danceable.

There will be no preconcert conversation for this program.
