The mighty Pacifica Quartet will celebrate the Library’s Stradivari Anniversary with a pair of concerts designed to give more listeners a chance to hear our fabled instruments in person. Straddling a century of American music, the concert includes several works held in manuscript at the Library—George Crumb’s “Black Angels” for amplified string quartet and Samuel Barber’s op. 11 string quartet, which includes the first version of his famous “Adagio for Strings.” Charles Ives’ fascinating second quartet will round out the first half, followed by Dvořák’s op. 96 quartet, the perennial favorite nicknamed the “American.”
Guests may only register for one of the two Pacifica Quartet concerts, so that more people have the opportunity to hear these special Stradivari instruments. The same program will be performed on each concert.
