Join the Library of Congress Veterans History Project for a live performance of "War Words," a performance drawn from the funny, strange, heroic, and heartbreaking stories of those we sent to Iraq and Afghanistan, those we brought home, and those we left behind.
Based on the playwright’s interviews with veterans of the 20-year war and their families, “War Words” aims to create a bridge between those who serve and the great majority of us who thank them for their service without truly understanding what that means.
A Pulitzer Prize-nominated production, "War Words" draws on personal interviews from U.S. veterans of the Afghan and Iraq Wars, where playwright, Michelle Kholos Brooks, has woven their funny, strange, heroic, and heartbreaking stories into a surprisingly relatable tapestry of military service and its lasting effects.
The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress collects, preserves and makes accessible the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans who served from World War I through more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand what they saw, did and felt during their service.
