German-French cellist and conductor Nicolas Alstaedt brings an impressive arsenal of musical skills to his performances with leading orchestras and ensembles worldwide. For this powerhouse solo recital he offers a program of masterly works exploring the possibilities of his instrument. All were revolutionary in their day, presenting fierce technical demands for even the most virtuosic artist. Altstaedt will play the Library’s magnificent 1699 Stradivari “Castelbarco” cello in two suites by J.S. Bach, and his own 1749 Guadagnini in the Dutilleux and Kodály sonata.
