- - This was said to have been composed by the late "Uncle Bunk" Collier, a Highlands County "Cracker," while hiding out from the sheriff after he had stolen a hog.
- - Straws are foot-long fiddle sticks whittled out of fat pine. Albritton and O'Berry say that their ancestors have been Southern fiddlers for several generations. Both are of Scotch-Irish descent. Only one fiddle was used; Albritton used the bow and O'Berry
- - The term "Cracker" in this context refers to a Florida pioneer of Scotch-Irish descent.
- - Performance Note: "Collier in the Scrub" (fiddle with straws) performed by G. G. Albritton, fiddle, and Cleo Wynn (C. W.) O'Berry, straws at Sebring, Florida, on July 26, 1940.
