(Jan. 26, 2010) The Bangladesh Secretary on Home Affairs and the Commerce Secretary of India have signed three treaties, on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, exchanging prisoners, and combating international terrorism. These treaties are expected to be ratified in January 2010.
According to news reports, several Indian nationals have been arrested and detained in Bangladesh, some of whom are on India's wanted list. The Indian government has also informed Bangladesh of a list of Bangladeshi nationals imprisoned in India for several years. In the treaty on transfer of prisoners, the countries have agreed that Bangladesh nationals detained in Indian jails, and Indian nationals detained in Bangladeshi jails, will be allowed to serve their detention in jails of their respective countries.
