(June 23, 2010) It was reported on May 20, 2010, that the Government of Bangladesh temporarily blocked access to the social media website Facebook. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said it blocked the site because of the posting of anti-religious links by Facebook users across the globe. However, the final decision to block Facebook was followed by the arrest of a Facebook user for uploading objectionable images of some political leaders, including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The ban on Facebook was lifted after Facebook removed content the government considered offensive. (Facebook Ban Lifted, DAILY STAR (June 6, 2010), http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=141592.)
