- Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) was an American composer, pianist, conductor, and educator. In 1951, he was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress in for the composition Serenade for solo violin, string orchestra. In 1954, he was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation for the composition Symphony No. 3, "Kaddish" for orchestra. The Music Division is the repository for the Leonard Bernstein collection (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.music/eadmus.mu998001).
