- George Crumb (1929-2022) was an American composer and educator. In 1964, he was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress for the composition Madrigals, Books I and II for mezzo-soprano, flute, percussion, harp, and contrabass. The Music Division received the holograph score in 1966 (https://lccn.loc.gov/66080388). In 1970, he was commissioned by the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation in the Library of Congress for the composition Ancient Voices of Children for mezzo-soprano, boy soprano, and instrumental ensemble. The Music Division holds the holograph score (https://lccn.loc.gov/74205039). In 2018, he was commissioned by the Verna and Irving Fine Fund in the Library of Congress for the composition Kronos - kryptos for percussion quintet. The Music Division received a holograph score and sketches in 2019 (https://lccn.loc.gov/2018561412). The Music Division is the repository for the George Crumb papers (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.music/eadmus.mu012003).
