- Howard Hanson (1896-1981) was an American composer, conductor, and educator. In 1945, he was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation for the composition Concerto, Op. 36 for piano and orchestra. The Music Division received the holograph full score (https://lccn.loc.gov/76207179), holograph score arranged for two pianos (https://lccn.loc.gov/71206431), and a facsimile (https://lccn.loc.gov/m56000883) in 1948. In 1954, he was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress for the composition Elegy, Op. 44, for orchestra and written in memory of Serge Koussevitzky. The Music Division received a holograph score in 1955 (https://lccn.loc.gov/79206023). In 1964, he was commissioned by the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation in the Library of Congress for the composition Four Psalms for baritone voice and six strings. The Music Division holds a holograph score (https://lccn.loc.gov/70002146) and facsimile of an arrangement for voice and piano (https://lccn.loc.gov/65077970). The Music Division additionally holds three holograph scores under ML96.H2692 CASE.
