  • Civil War diary (158 pages) kept by Jabez Alvord, a second lieutenant with the 28th Connecticut Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army. Alvord records the service of the regiment from November 15, 1862, to August 28, 1863. Includes a detailed account of operations against Port Hudson, Louisiana, May 26-June 9, 1863. Also includes descriptions of voyages, marches, and camp life at Fort Barrancas, Florida; Ship Island, Mississippi; and Brashear City, later Morgan City, and the Carrollton neighborhood, New Orleans, Louisiana.
