- Manuscript materials relating chiefly to various aspects of the colonial history of British North America and the West Indies. Formerly a part of Bibliotheca Phillippica, a library of manuscripts and printed books compiled by Sir Thomas Phillipps. Documents the administration of the colonies by the British government. Of particular note are papers relating to the British Board of Trade and its predecessors and to Sir William Blathwayt; letterbooks of George Macartney, Earl of Macartney, while colonial governor in the Caribbean; papers of Jean Louis Berlandier relating to his surveys of the border between the United States and Mexico and to his various explorations in Mexico, Lower California, and Texas; English court records and reports; journal of Michel Bégon, colonial administrator in the French West Indies; and miscellaneous papers pertaining to the administration of the Spanish colonies in America.
