Includes material relating to plays in which she appeared or directed or produced; the Civic Repertory Theatre, an acting company she founded in New York, N.Y., in 1926 to produce classic plays at popular prices; her work in other repertory companies on stage and in films and television; her admiration for actresses Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonara Duse; her English translations of plays by Anton Chekov and Henrik Ibsen and stories by Hans Christian Andersen and Carl Ewald; and the Tony Award she received in 1964. Other persons represented include Constance Collier, Marion Gunnar Evenson, Josephine Hutchinson, Nazimova, Margaret Webster, and Mary Louise Curtis Bok Zimbalist.
- Also includes papers of her parents, Danish journalist Julie Nørregaard Le Gallienne and British poet and novelist Richard Le Gallienne. Includes letters from her half-sister, Hesper Le Gallienne Hutchinson, describing conditions in England while living there during World War II.
