Includes material relating to plays in which she appeared or directed or produced; the Civic Repertory Theatre, an acting company she founded in New York, N.Y., in 1926 to produce classic plays at popular prices; her work in other repertory companies on stage and in films and television; her admiration for actresses Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonara Duse; her English translations of plays by Anton Chekov and Henrik Ibsen and stories by Hans Christian Andersen and Carl Ewald; and the Tony Award she received in 1964.
