  • -  One of a number of surveys of the black populations of various cities by the National Urban League in the 1920s. The survey, a carbon copy of a typescript on onionskin paper, is in narrative form, without either table of contents or index. Beginning with a historical note, the survey focuses on the physical and socio-economic status of the African American population in Fort Wayne in 1928, with some information provided in tables. Topics covered include composition of the population, residential neighborhoods and housing, migration (mostly from rural South to urban North), industries and black employment, wages, health, and recreation. The report includes a table on changes in rate of pay for migrants, depending on place of origin and former and current occupation; brief family statements on migration history and family circumstances; information and tables on house ownership, rentals, and lodgers; and statements from skilled workers.
