Biographies May Swenson

May Swenson was born in Logan, Utah, in 1913. She authored more than a dozen poetry collections, including A Cage of Spines (1958), New and Selected Things Taking Place (1978), and The Love Poems (1991). Her honors include the Bollinger Prize, the Shelley Memorial Award, and fellowships from the Rockefeller, Guggenheim, and Ford foundations. She taught at Bryn Mawr College, the University of North Carolina, the University of California, and Perdue University. Swenson died in 1989.
