Marianne Moore was born in Kirkwood, Missouri, in 1887. Moore wrote numerous poetry collections, including Poems (1921), Observations (1924), and Selected Poems (1969). Her honors include a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, a Bollingen Prize, a National Book Award for Poetry, a Robert Frost Medal, an American Academy of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for Poetry, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Moore died in 1972.
