José Emilio Pacheco was born in Mexico City in 1939. He is the author of sixteen poetry collections, including No me preguntes cómo pasa el tiempo (Don’t Ask Me How the Time Goes By) (1969) and Miro la tierra (I Look at the Earth) (1986). He was also the author of novels and short story collections, including Las batallas del desierto (Battles in the Desert) (1981). He edited several anthologies and translated numerous authors from English, such as Samuel Beckett and T.S. Eliot. Pacheco was awarded the National Journalism Prize in Mexico, the Reina Sofía Iberoamerican Poetry Award, and the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, among other honors. He was a professor in several universities in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Great Britain. He died in 2014 in Mexico City.

Además de su trabajo poético, escribió también novelas y colecciones de cuentos, entre ellas Las batallas del desierto (1981). Editó varias antologías y tradujo al español escritores como Samuel Beckett y T.S. Eliot. Pacheco recibió el Premio Nacional de Periodismo en México, el Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana, y el Premio Miguel de Cervantes, entre otros honores. Sirvió como profesor en varias universidades en los Estados Unidos, México, Canadá e Inglaterra. Murió en 2014 en la Ciudad de México.
