Mario Vargas Llosa was born in Arequipa, Peru in 1936. He is the author of fifteen novels, including La Ciudad de los Perros (The Time of the Hero) (1963), La casa verde (The Green House) (1966), and La guerra del fin del mundo (The War of the End of the World) (1981). He has also written three short story collections, including Los jefes (The Leaders) (1959), as well as several collections of essays. His books have been translated into more than thirty languages. In 2010, Vargas Llosa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. His other honors include the Leopoldo Alas Book Prize, the National Prize for Best Novel in Peru, the Ritz Paris Hemingway Award, the Rómulo Gallegos Prize, and the Miguel de Cervantes Prize. He has been a visiting professor or writer-in-residence at various universities, including the University of London, the University of Washington, and the University of Puerto Rico. In 1993 he acquired dual Spanish and Peruvian citizenship. He passed away in Lima, Peru in April of 2025 at the age of 89.

Es autor de alrededor de quince novelas, entre las que cabe mencionar, La Ciudad de los Perros (1963), La casa verde (1966) y La guerra del fin del mundo (1981). Además de su trabajo como novelista, su obra consiste también de colecciones de cuentos, como Los jefes (1959), así como ensayos sobre temas políticos y culturales. Su obra ha sido traducida a más de treinta idiomas. Entre sus numerosos galardones y reconocimientos, cabe destacar el Premio Leopoldo Alas, el Premio Nacional de la Novela del Perú, el Premio Hemingway París Ritz, el Premio Rómulo Gallegos, el Premio Miguel de Cervantes, y el Nobel de Literatura en el 2010. Ha sido profesor en varias universidades, entre ellas, la Universidad de Londres, la Universidad de Washington y la Universidad de Puerto Rico. En 1993, Vargas Llosa adquirió la doble nacionalidad, española y peruana. Murió en Lima en abril del 2025.
