Allen Ginsberg was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1926. He is the author of more than 40 poetry collections, including Howl and Other Poems (1956); Planet News (1968); and The Fall of America: Poems of These States (1973), which won the National Book Award. Ginsberg’s other honors include the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Minister of Culture, the Robert Frost Medal, and the National Arts Club Gold Medal. A distinguished professor at Brooklyn College, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Ginsberg also co-founded the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1974. He died in 1997.
