David Lehman was born in New York City in 1948. His poetry collections include New and Selected Poems (2013), Yeshiva Boys (2009), and When A Man Loves a Woman (2005). He founded and serves as editor of The Best American Poetry, and has published his forwards to annual series in The State of the Art: A Chronicle of American Poetry, 1988-2014 (2015). He has also published books of popular and literary criticism, served as editor of numerous anthologies, and was former editor of The University of Michigan Press “Poets on Poetry” series. Lehman’s awards include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a Literary Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Award. David Lehman lives in New York and teaches at the New School.
