Biography Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak was born in New York City in 1928. He was the author and illustrator of more than 20 children’s books, including Where the Wild Things Are (1963), Higglety Pigglety Pop! Or There Must Be More to Life (1967), and My Brother’s Book (2013). His honors include the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, a National Book Award for Picture Books, and the National Medal of Arts. Sendak died in 2012, and was posthumously inducted into the New York Writers Hall of Fame in 2013.
