Gregory Orr was born in Albany, New York, in 1947. He is the author of more than 10 collections of poetry, including The Caged Owl (2002), Concerning the Book that is the Body of the Beloved (2005), and River Inside the River (2013). His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, and two poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. He currently teaches at the University of Virginia, where he founded the MFA program in writing.
