Biography Mark Perlberg

Mark Perlberg was born in Palisade, New Jersey, in 1929. A poet and journalist, he is the author of four poetry collections, including The Burning Field (1960) and Waiting for the Alchemist (2008), the latter published posthumously. As an arts journalist, Perlberg wrote for Time magazine, and later became an editor for Encyclopedia Britannica and World Book Encyclopedia. In 1968, he co-founded the Poetry Center of Chicago with Paul Carroll, where he served as president for 13 years. Perlberg died in Skokie, Illinois, in 2008.
