Charles G. Bell was born in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1916. He wrote three books of poetry, including Songs for a New America (1953), Delta Return (1956), and Five Chambered Heart (1986); as well as two novels, The Married Land (1962) and The Half Gods (1968). He taught English and physics at numerous institutions, including Princeton University, Iowa State University, and St. John’s College. His masterpiece, Symbolic History through Sight and Sound, is a series of multimedia presentations, totaling more than 60 hours, that covers many different aspects of civilization, art, history, and philosophy. Bell died in 2010.
