Harold Ickes (1874-1952) was appointed secretary of the interior under President Roosevelt. Ickes was a lifelong supporter of President Roosevelt's New Deal programs. From 1933 to 1939, he was the head of the Public Works Administration, which generated jobs and public building programs nationwide.
