April 10, 2000 D.C. Students To Read Favorite Poems

Students from D.C. public schools will read their favorite poems, as well as their own original poems, in a "Showcase of Voices" at the Library of Congress on Thursday, April 13, at 6:45 p.m. in the Montpelier Room on the sixth floor of the Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E. No tickets are required.

The students will be joined by Dolores Kendrick, the poet laureate of Washington D.C., and Eloise Greenfield, children's book author, in the program, which is sponsored by The District Lines Poetry Project and the Federation of Friends of the D.C. Public Library.

Grades 4 through 9 will be represented by students from Oyster Bilingual Elementary, Kramer Middle School, Hart Middle School, Trusdell Elementary, Shepherd Elementary, and others. The program will include representatives from such D.C. area programs as the District Lines Poetry Project workshops, Parkmont Poetry Festival, WritersCorps, the I Have A Dream Program and public library workshops.
