Robert Dizard has been appointed to the new position of staff director of the U.S. Copyright Office, effective May 1. Since June 1999, Mr. Dizard has served as the acting director of Congressional Relations for the Library of Congress. Prior to that, he was a senior congressional relations specialist in the Congressional Relations Office. He began his service at the Library of Congress in 1990 as a copyright examiner.
In his new position, Mr. Dizard will represent Copyright Register Marybeth Peters and the Copyright Office on a wide range of management, operational and policy issues. He will also serve as coordinator of congressional relations for copyright.
Between 1983 and 1990, Mr. Dizard was administrative assistant to Rep. Guy V. Molinari (R-N.Y.). He received his bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany, where he majored in economics and political science. He received a master of international affairs (economics) degree from Columbia University.
The Copyright Office administers U.S. copyright law and provides policy expertise to Congress and the executive branch in addressing increasingly important and complex domestic and international intellectual property issues.
