The Library of Congress and the U.S. Copyright Office will sign a cooperative agreement with the National Music Publishers' Association Inc. (NMPA) and its licensing subsidiary, The Harry Fox Agency Inc. (HFA), to allow HFA to register musical works and deposit them for copyright online, through the Copyright Office's CORDS program (Copyright Office Electronic Registration, Recordation & Deposit System).
The signing of the agreement will take place on Monday, November 27, at 11 a.m. in room LM 642 of the Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E. Members of the media are invited to attend.
The CORDS system allows music publishers to register their copyrights online through the HFA SongFile.com Web site, eliminating paperwork and speeding up the copyright registration process. It also allows the Library of Congress to acquire new musical works in electronic form for its growing digital library collections.
