The Great Hall and Great Hall exhibition areas of the Thomas Jefferson Building will be closed to all staff and members of the public all day on Friday, October 11. No visitors will be allowed in the Jefferson Building that day. Readers and staff must enter the Jefferson Building via the tunnels from the Adams or Madison buildings and must pass through metal detectors. The northeast entrance (on Second Street) to the Jefferson Building will be for law enforcement officers only; the southeast entrance to Jefferson will remain closed. Readers should use the Second Street cloakroom only on that day.

Flyers are being prepared for placement in the reading rooms to inform users of this Friday closure. Signs will be posted outside the three buildings on the morning of Oct. 11 directing readers and staff to use Madison and Adams entrances to get to the Jefferson Building. Signs will be posted in the tunnels directing staff and readers to the various reading rooms in the Jefferson Building. There will be no entrance to or exit from any of the reading rooms on the west side of the Jefferson Building.

Normal operations for the Great Hall and the Main Reading will resume on Saturday and on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for the other Jefferson Building reading rooms that are normally closed on Saturday. Also, all buildings of the Library of Congress will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14 for the federal Columbus Day holiday.
