January 15, 2003 Historian Raanan Rein To Lecture on Israel and Argentinian Jewry on Feb. 3

Historian Raanan Rein will deliver a lecture titled "Israel and Argentinian Jewry: Complementary or Conflicting Interests?" at noon on Monday, Feb. 3, in the West Dining Room on the sixth floor of the Library's James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave., S.E., in Washington, D.C. The event, which will be sponsored jointly by the Hispanic Division and the Hebrew Language Table, is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Rein is director of the Institute of Latin American History and Culture at Tel Aviv University in Israel. In 2002, he was elected member of Argentina's Academia Nacional de la Historia. In the same year, he received the Latin American Jewish Studies Award for Outstanding Research. Rein is the author of nine books including, most recently, "Argentina, Israel and the Jews: From the Partition of Palestine to the Eichmann Affair." He has written many articles and is the editor of Estudios Interdisciplinarios de America Latina y el Caribe.
