WHAT:
Press preview of "Rivers, Edens, Empires: Lewis & Clark and the Revealing of America," a major new exhibition about the exploration of North America featuring the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery expedition as the culmination of the quest to find a water passage across the continent.

HIGHLIGHT:
Display-for the first time at the Library of Congress-the large 1507 world map by cartographer Martin Waldseemüller, which gave the name "America" to the new lands explored by Columbus and Vespucci. (A full-size facsimile will be on view for the press preview; the original map will not be displayed until the opening of the exhibition on July 24.)

WHEN:
Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m.

WHERE:
Whittall Pavilion, ground floor of the Jefferson Building; enter through the west carriage entrance of the Jefferson Building. The preview will begin in the Whittall Pavilion and then continue into the exhibition itself, which is in the Northwest Gallery and Pavilion on the second floor of the Jefferson Building.
