Applications are now being accepted for the Library of Congress Coca-Cola Fellowship for the Study of Advertising and World Cultures for 2005. Administered by the Library's Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division in collaboration with the Library's Office of Scholarly Programs and the John W. Kluge Center, the fellowship is awarded to researchers studying the interrelationships among advertising, culture, commerce and the media.
The fellowship provides the recipient with access to resources at the Library of Congress for an extended period of in-depth, multidisciplinary research into the Library's broadcast-advertising and other audiovisual collections. A supporting stipend of $20,000 is provided for the duration of the fellowship, which must include three months residency in the Washington, D.C. area. Fellows are also provided with research facilities in the Library's Kluge Center for the period of their research.
Scholars of all nationalities are invited to apply. Selection of the Coca-Cola Fellow will be made by the Librarian of Congress upon the recommendation of a three-person selection committee chosen from the broader academic community. Funding for the fellowship is provided by a grant from the Coca-Cola Co. in connection with the donation of its archival collection of television broadcast advertising materials to the Library of Congress in 2000.
The deadline for completed applications and supporting materials for the 2005 award is March 15, 2005, with the recipient to be announced on May 1, 2005. For more information on how to apply for the fellowship, visit the Web site at www.loc.gov/rr/mopic/cokefellowship/.
