September 13, 2005 Jefferson Building of Library of Congress Closed Sept. 23

On Friday, Sept. 23, the Great Hall and Great Hall exhibits in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed all day to the public. No visitors will be allowed in the Jefferson Building, although researchers will be able to use all Jefferson Building Reading Rooms. The Sales Shop in the Jefferson Building will also be closed for the day.

Researchers should enter the Jefferson Building via the tunnels from the John Adams or James Madison Memorial Buildings and must pass through metal detectors.

Signs will be posted outside the Jefferson, Adams and Madison buildings informing readers of the closing and directing them to use the Madison or Adams buildings to enter the Jefferson Building. Once in the Jefferson Building, signs will direct staff and readers to the reading rooms they wish to use.

Normal access to the Great Hall, exhibition areas, the Sales Shop and all reading rooms will resume on Saturday, Sept. 24 (for those with Saturday hours) or Monday, Sept. 26 (for those closed on Saturday).

We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
