WHAT: Press briefing and opportunity to preview “Cartoon America: Highlights From the Art Wood Collection of Cartoon and Caricature,” a Library of Congress exhibition.

WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. Tours by exhibition curators Sara Duke and Martha Kennedy will follow at approximately 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

WHERE: Members’ Room, Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First St. S.E., Washington, D.C.

WHO: Award-winning cartoonists Art Wood, Brian Walker, Ann Telnaes and Kevin Kallaugher, and Harry Katz, former head curator of the Library’s Prints and Photographs Division and editor of the exhibition’s companion book, “Cartoon America” (Abrams, 2006).

BACKGROUND

“Cartoon America: Highlights From the Art Wood Collection” will open in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building on Thursday, Nov. 2, and will be on view through Feb. 24, 2007. The exhibition is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday. It will feature 100 masterworks of celebrated artists, spanning three centuries. The Art Wood collection came to the Library in 2003 through a gift-purchase agreement.

A press packet, including a CD-ROM of selected images from the exhibition, will be available at the briefing, as well as review copies of the book “Cartoon America.”
