On Friday, Sept. 29, the Great Hall and Great Hall exhibitions in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed all day to the public. No visitors will be allowed in the Jefferson Building, although researchers will be able to use all Jefferson Building reading rooms. The Sales Shop in the Jefferson Building will also be closed for the day.
The Jefferson Building will be open to researchers from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday via either via the Southeast entrance or via the tunnels from the John Adams and James Madison Memorial buildings. The Carriage Entrance on the West Front Drive and the Southeast Door will be available for persons with disabilities. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency.
Previously scheduled and reserved tour groups will be admitted for the 8:30 a.m. tour. Previously scheduled constituent tour groups and reserved tour groups will be admitted between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. only. All tour groups must leave the building by 10:30 a.m.
Signs will be posted outside the Library's Jefferson, Adams and Madison buildings informing readers of the closing and directing them to use the Madison or Adams buildings to enter the Jefferson Building. Once in the Jefferson Building, signs will direct staff and readers to the reading rooms they wish to use.
Normal access to the Great Hall, exhibition areas, the Sales Shop and all reading rooms will resume on Saturday, Sept. 30 (for those with Saturday hours) or Monday, October 1 (for those closed on Saturday).
We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
